On Saturday, the New England Revolution shocked the Houston Dynamo when they earned a 2-0 victory at BBVA Compass Stadium. The result ended the Revs’ four-game winless streak against the Dynamo while also providing the home team with their second straight loss. The final score was a testament to the Revolution’s ability to stay composed despite the hostile environment.

Revs, Dynamo Look to Bounce Back after Home Disappointment

Written by Seth Macomber on .

The New England Revolution and the Houston Dynamo are set to renew their rivalry on Saturday, May 18th when the two clubs have their first meeting of 2013. The bad blood began in 2006 when the Dynamo defeated the Revs in penalty kicks to win the MLS Cup in their inaugural year. The following season saw an MLS Cup rematch with Houston once again reigning supreme. The Revs did earn some redemption in 2008 when they defeated their nemesis to win SuperLiga. While there is no championship on the line on Saturday, both teams will want a win as a way of negating recent results.

Imbongo Impresses as Revs Tie New York

Written by Seth Macomber on .

On Saturday, May 11th, the New England Revolution (2-4-4) ended their two-game home stand with a 1-1 draw against the New York Red Bulls (6-4-3). The game’s most important moments occurred within the 54th minute with both Diego Fagaundez and Sam Lloyd finding the back of the net. While the Revs will be disappointed with losing a lead for the second time this week, they did get a strong performance from an unexpected player: Dimitry Imbongo.

Late Goals Punish Revs

Written by Seth Macomber on .

On Wednesday, May 8th, Real Salt Lake defeated the New England Revolution 2-1 on a pair of late goals. The final result was disappointing for the Revs since Ryan Guy scored the game’s first goal and the defense was limiting RSL’s chances. An inability to stay focus and close out the game allowed the visitors to overturn momentum and capture three points.

Written by Seth Macomber on .

Fresh off a 2-0 victory over the Philadelphia Union, the New England Revolution will hope to sustain momentum when they travel to Portland to face the Timbers on Thursday, May 2nd. Earning their second consecutive win of the season will be difficult because the Revs will be without a number of key players.

Revolution Win Driven by Comfort

Written by Seth Macomber on .

The New England Revolution (2-3-2) made history on Saturday, April 27th when they recorded their first ever victory against the Philadelphia Union (3-3-2). Diego Fagundez played hero in the 61st minute when he ended the Revolution’s goal-scoring drought at 480 minutes. Lee Nguyen added the security goal in the 71st minute to help propel the Revs to a 2-0 victory. The typical solid defensive display and the atypical offensive explosion can be attributed to the high comfort level among players and their positions.

The season is long for Major League Soccer but it’s important for teams to collect points early if they want to make the playoffs. With only five total points, the New England Revolution (1-3-2) realizes that there is a great deal of pressure to start winning. The Revs hope to get momentum back on their side when they face the Philadelphia Union (3-2-2) on Saturday, April 27th in a game that Chris Tierney called a “must win.”

Scoring Anxiety Creates Disorganization in Revs’ Loss

Written by Seth Macomber on .

On Saturday, April 20th, the New England Revolution suffered a 4-1 defeat against the New York Red Bulls at Red Bull Arena. Before this game, the Revs had only allowed two goals in 2013 and had only lost by more than one goal twice since Heaps took the helm. The defense’s break from the norm can be blamed on disorganization which has been caused by scoring anxiety.
