A Point in the Right Direction as DC United Draw Sporting KC

Written by Robert Moore on .

A point is better than no point, but DC United still lacked a cutting edge at the weekend as Ben Olsen's squad were able to conjure up a 1-1 draw with a surging Sporting KC.  On the night, DC United indeed may have not even deserved a point as Sporting KC's coach Peter Vermes was furious over a disallowed goal that would have given SKC three crucial points; however mistakes happen unfortunately.  According to The Washington Post, PRO Executive Director Peter Walcott and even the linesman noted "It was clearly a wrong call and one that cannot be justified."  The aforementioned call refers to Ike Opara's finish in the first half that was called back in which replays show he was onside.

The Trials and Tribulations of DC United This Season - Only Up From Here?

Written by Robert Moore on .

Is this how DC United's season is going to go and if so, who is to blame? Numerous questions are arising in the DC United camp and whether or not changes will be made soon, remains to be seen. Currently undergoing an eight game winless streak, Ben Olsen now looks to the entire organization to take upon the accountability for the poor performances. As RFK was once a fortress, has been anything but that this season after a 0-4 mauling to the Houston Dynamo on May 8th.

Short and Sweet: DC United's Slump Continues

Written by Robert Moore on .

DC United were once again defeated on Saturday at Crew Stadium 0-3 as the Columbus Crew handled matters fairly easily. The scoreboard at Crew Stadium set ablaze on Saturday and it was certainly not because DC United had tallied so many goals that the jumbo screen malfunctioned - if anything, the Black & Red had no use for the scoreboard at all. The continued struggle to find the back of the net continued at the weekend as the visitors did enjoy the majority of the chances on the afternoon outshooting the Crew 21-7, only six on target.

DC Hit the Road to Take on Columbus Crew

Written by Robert Moore on .

DC United will look to turn their season around on April 27th at Crew Stadium as the Columbus Crew will look to take another three points away from the visitors. These two clubs previously met on March 23rd, where DC United fell 1-2 at RFK Stadium - marking the beginning of what has been a four match losing streak. Sitting on just four points from a possible 21 so far this season, Ben Olsen is going to need a full 90 minute heart-felt performance from every member that steps onto the pitch.

I-95 Rivals Meet Once Again as DC United Welcomes the Philadelphia Union into RFK

Written by Robert Moore on .

On Sunday evening, DC United will once again renew its rivalry with the Philadelphia Union at 5pm at RFK Stadium (game to be aired on ESPN 2).  The start to DC United's season has been anything but pleasant as Ben Olsen's side have only scored a combined two goals.  Aside from stellar performances from Brandon McDonald, Dejan Jakovic and an occasional solid performance from Perry Kitchen and Rafael - going forward DC United have been anything but promising.  Lionard Pajoy, Chris Pontius and Dwayne De Rosario have all gone missing in key moments in matches, and the finishing touch is just not there both at RFK and on the road.

DC United's Woes Continue as the Red Bulls Handle Matters Easily at RFK Stadium

Written by Robert Moore on .

RFK Stadium was rocking on Saturday evening as DC United took on an also struggling New York Red Bull side.  Both the DC and New York clubs have had slow starts to their 2012/13 campaign and Saturday night proved another interesting contest.  First and foremost, from the first six matches of DC's season, the side have only claimed a mere two goals.  As their offensive woes continue to plague the nations capital, Ben Olsen must possibly look to a new system to engage all of their players in the match.  Credit to New York however, as Mike Petke offered forward a very sturdy effort from his men, whom capitalized on their chances which provided for a crucial three points.

Struggling DC United Look to Dismantle Sporting Kansas City

Written by Robert Moore on .

DC United will look to rebound against a very well organized Sporting Kansas City side on Friday night at (LIVESTRONG) Sporting Park at 8:30pm.  After an extended break for the Black & Red, Ben Olsen's starting XI should come right out of the gates swinging.   Although DC lost a real heartbreak against the Columbus Crew in their last outing this period of no MLS matches really gave Olsen time to get his side "back to the basics."  For the first four games of the season, DC have lacked a cutting-edge attacking mentality and instead focused more on defensive posture.  Brandon McDonald, Dejan Jakovic, James Riley and Chris Korb have all seen their fair share of the ball so far this season - and perhaps too much.

DC United Continue Uneven Start with a Loss to Crew

Written by Robert Moore on .

The uneven performances continue for DC United as the Black & Red lost a heartbreaker at RFK on Saturday afternoon 1-2 to the Columbus Crew. The visitors entered the match with extreme confidence in their attempt to eliminate United's home unbeaten streak - and the constant pressure upheld by Dominic Oduro and Federico Higuain proved too much for the DC side. Josh Williams opened the account for the Crew; however courtesy of the young designated player Rafael's "wonder strike" from about 30 yards out in the 22nd minute, DC United then leveled the match at 1-1. Ben Olsen surely was not happy with his teams overall performance and some of the referees decisions but, calls cannot be reversed in soccer - well, on Saturday the calls did.
