Days after failing to make the 2013 playoffs head coach Martin Rennie was sacked. His sacking was a controversial topic amongst Vancouver fans, with many fans calling for him to be given another chance while others (myself included) were pleased to see him go. Rennie is a good coach, but too often during the 2013 campaign Rennie refused to change his tactics which cost Vancouver valuable points. The most concerning thing to come from his demise was the public revealing of the football committee that supposedly runs the Whitecaps.
On Saturday, Mar. 1, the New England Revolution concluded their preseason schedule with a 2-2 draw with the Colorado Rapids. The result came after the Revs conceded the lead on two separate occasions. Teal Bunbury got his second preseason goal in the 5th minute before Edson Buddle equalized in the 25th. Later, Patrick Mullins’ 57th minute strike was neutralized by Vincente Sanchez’s 82nd minute effort. The Revs will finish their preseason with a record of 2-1-4. The New England Revolution expanded their roster to 27 players on Wednesday when they acquired Daigo Kobayashi from the Vancouver Whitecaps in exchange for a fourth-round draft pick in the 2016 MLS SuperDraft.
The transaction, which became official at halftime of Wednesday’s game against the Chicago Fire, comes after the Japanese midfielder spent a week on trial with the club. While the trial certainly played a role in earning Kobayashi a contract with the Revs, head coach Jay Heaps admitted that the 31-year-old had long been a player of interest.no comments
On Wednesday, Feb. 26, the New England Revolution earned a 1-0 victory over the Chicago Fire. The game seemed destined to end scoreless until the 91st minute when Diego Fagundez slipped the ball to Kelyn Rowe who scored the game’s decider.
